Egineering News Articles (Lesson 6)

I read a article that spoke about new and innovative ways to produce fuels. I said that Soy and Corn can be used for alternative fuels such as bio diesel and ethanol. The increase demand for the crops has increased the cost and has caused a food shortage for those particular plants. They have also discovered that algae is a perfect source for green fuel. An acre of algae should produce 10,000 gallons of oil or even 100,000 gallons. Soy on the other hand only produces 50 gallons per acre. Sadly the costs of growing algae is quite expensive and they are still try to find inexpensive ways to grow it. I also read an article that talked about fighting terrorism. The engineer of Howard University, Robert Wood is developing a robotic fly. It weighs no more than a few grains of rice. It also has small odor sensors that could detect deadly fumes attached to bombs. It will keep track of Terrorists activities. I also think it will help benefit the country and keep us safe.
